Jessie Chan

Registered Physiotherapist
Gyrotonic and Pilates Instructor

My Story

Jessie was the co-founder of PhysioFit Physiotherapy and Fitness Centre (2014- 2021) before she set up MASTERS Physiotherapy and Health Centre in 2022 single-handedly. She acquired her vast physiotherapy experience from serving in the institutions of both public and private sector in Hospital Authority and Hong Kong Sanatorium and Hospital.

She has one great chief goal in her mind that she would only deliver the best and the best personal professional service to every patient with integration of the knowledge, sincerity and innovation. The overseas training, including the Master Degree specialized in Musculoskeletal physiotherapy in the University of Melbourne and various physiotherapy courses and diplomas that she attended and obtained help her to achieve this goal.

It is well known that a single injury if not well treated can cause serious long term physical problems and potential sequelae. The pain as a result of the injury has sinister effects on the nervous system to trigger uncontrolled and often harmful compensatory movement. This dysfunctional pattern of movement makes our body move differently. The dysfunctional body movement can lead to long term muscle imbalance and chronic pain. Sometimes one has to really think hard before one can understand the injury has such dreadful effects on the body.

This is the reason why Jessie treats a whole person as a total entity rather than one body part or a shoulder or knee pathology.

Jessie is eager to explore in finding the possible solutions in treating the muscle imbalance and dysfunctional movement. From her experience in either local or overseas training, her insight obtained in either medical or physical fitness field, she understands the critical point of successful treatment is that both therapist and patient together understand the root cause of the problem. By involving the patient to identify and understand the relationship among the neurologically hyperactive and inhibited tissues, she can then convince the patient to treat the problem accordingly by both passive manual therapy and active specific exercise.

Our goal

A physiotherapist needs to have the dedication to find out the cause of the problems via thorough assessment, and to give detailed explanations and to deliver custom-made treatment programs to patients. The treatment should contain the passive components such as manual therapy and electrical modalities to create a desirable condition to unlock the patients’ hidden recovery potential. And then the active exercise takes a critical role to stimulate the nervous system and the body to function in an ideal strategy. To fulfil patients’ satisfaction, of course, the patients’ understanding and collaboration is of utmost importance by being aware of the change of habits and committing to the home exercise.

She likes to give some specific exercise and skill to manage patients’ dysfunction and thus minimize their pain. This strategy offers the most long-lasting treatment effects that are not only able to be performed in the clinic, but is also applicable in the office station, at home or in every daily activity.

She believes the most effective strategy is that the patient must be actively involved in the treatment.

The treatment must have a long-lasting effect. She believes specific exercise that is performed in the clinic can also be performed at home or in the patient’s workplace. She would discuss with the patient and let him or her understand the root cause of the problem. She would then involve the patient with a specific treatment regime and together they would mutually agree on some treatment exercise and thus achieve a long-term goal. This is called mutual agreed exercise treatment.
