Western Acupuncture

With good understanding of musculoskeletal system and nervous system, applying the modern acupuncture provides an excellent effect on pain relief and muscle relaxation.

Western acupuncture is derived from traditional Chinese acupuncture. The research showed that stimulating the skin or muscles by inserting needles (both in local injured areas and body parts that are far away from the injured site) can stimulate the nervous system to produce pain relieving agents such as endorphins. It is scientifically proven that acupuncture provides a promising treatment effect in various musculoskeletal problems, such as low back pain, neck pain, tennis elbow, shoulder impingement and joint related pain.

Our physiotherapists are certified to provide western acupuncture. According to the medical diagnosis and the physical assessment, we tailor made the acupuncture protocol according to the physiology, anatomy, pathology and evidence- based research. The needle would be inserted into the superficial skin level for pain relief or deep muscle level for muscle relaxation.

Gyrotonic

GYROTONIC®

Mastering the stability, flexibility and strength of our body in three dimensional motion is the beauty of GYROTONIC® Exercise.

The Gyrotonic Expansion System Method was created in the 1970s by Julio Horvath, a Hungarian born in Romania. It is a unique exercise system that has a holistic and mindful approach to the body. The movement sequences have spiralling, circular and three-dimensional movements. Each movement flows into the next with rhythm and corresponding breathing. This way the joints move through a natural range of motion without jarring or compression. It stimulates the connective tissue of your body & it stretches and strengthens at the same time, creating a balanced body.

Gyrotonic includes exercises with special equipment and mat work named Gyrokinesis. It is a unique exercise strategy that is difficult to describe in words until you truly do it, experience it and feel it yourself to fully appreciate its uniqueness.

With many years of physiotherapy practice, symptoms of an overuse injury can sometimes last longer than a serious bone fracture. It makes the rehabilitation process challenging. Local treatment cannot warrant good results unless the musculoskeletal system skilfully re-trained. Recent research finding suggests promoting core stability and body awareness can tackle movement dysfunction and relieve pain. Our certified GYROTONIC® physiotherapists combine the beauty of GYROTONIC® exercises with the knowledge of anatomy and pathology, developed a fascinating exercise method in rehabilitation and fitness enhancement. With accurate assessment we identify the key addressing your symptoms, usually it happens not only on one body part. Integration of GYROTONIC® methodology and physiotherapy we provide the best possible treatment option to wide scope of patients’ need, range from injury and overuse rehabilitation to postural correction.

"Intention is the driving force that moves the body."

Manual

Manual Therapy

Usually, the physiotherapist will apply particular hands- on techniques, according to patients’ dysfunctional area, such as muscle fibres alignment or joint structures, to restore the flexibility of soft tissues and the range of motion of joints and thus improve the overall mobility of the body. By regaining the mobility, the movement quality improves with increased flexibility, better quality of muscle contraction and joint motion. And eventually, the pain relief is achieved.

Manual therapy consists of manipulation, mobilization of joints and soft tissue therapy.

Overloaded joint and muscles restrict the movement of body parts and hence cause the movement dysfunction and pain. The purpose of manual therapy is to restore the mobility in overloaded joints due to repetitive stress. This regains proper alignment and the body can move more efficiently and without pain. Manual therapy also promotes soft tissues healing by facilitating circulation of injured area.

Manual therapy is an effective hand- on treatment to alleviate pain by releasing the muscle tension, and loosening the joint stiffness. It also stimulates the nervous system to secrete pain relief agents such as serotonin.

Pilates Exercise

"Changes happen through movement and movement heals."

Joseph Pilates

Pilates is about controlled movement, deep muscle connection, stretching, strengthening & breathing, emphasizing mindful movement. The goal is to have complete coordination of the body and the mind. The better connection you establish with your body, the better results you will achieve.

MASTERS offers various specialized Pilates equipment to facilitate better movement patterns. The Pilates equipment contains a spring system and movable parts. You will be placed in a different position to do the movement. The positioning of the client and the resistance from the springs facilitate or resist the movement providing better feedback and working the body in a global and balanced way. The movable parts challenge the core stability and balance. It is a useful tool for helping people improve physical function in varying stages of life and varying physical condition. It is scientifically proven that Pilates exercise helps in pain relief and improves body alignment.

Radio

Radiofrequency Therapy (TECAR Therapy)

MUSCLE RELAXATION

The precise and aimed effect of the Targeted Radiofrequency Therapy on the hypertonic muscle fibers causes an immediate muscle relaxation. The effect of myorelaxation is primarily based on vasodilation, which occurs immediately during the therapy and is responsible for higher supply of nutrients into the tissue.

TISSUE REGENERATION AND HEALING

The improvement of tissue metabolism is a natural and valuable secondary outcome of the therapy. It leads to faster healing of the traumatized soft tissue and faster resorption of post-injury haematomas.

SWELLING REDUCTION

The walls of the arterioles are enlarged and the precapillary sphincters relaxed, allowing increased local blood perfusion. This leads to an increase of the lymphatic processes (drainage) and subsequently to reduction of the oedema.

PAIN RELIEF

The principal effect of the Targeted Radiofrequency Therapy–the pain relief–results from muscle relaxation, edema reduction, tissue regeneration and healing.

Radiofrequency Therapy is a form of endogenous thermotherapy  based on radio waves. It stimulates the tissues in cellular level, which activate the blood circulation and speed up the natural physiological reaction. It provides immediate and intense pain relief, muscle relaxation, oedema reduction and supporting tissue regeneration and healing.

High Power LASER

High power LASER is the latest technology in LASER therapy to promote tissue repair at cellular level.

LASER light, due to its monochromacy and coherency, can direct its effect precisely. Its 1064nm wavelength is highly active specifically for biological chromophores, allowing maximum therapeutic effect without irradiating unwanted areas. The maximum power of 12 W allows an extremely high penetration of the LASER beam and guarantees efficient stimulation of tissue and pain receptors located up to 12 cm in depth from the skin surface.

The LASER light penetrates the cell and stimulates the mitochondria to normalize the production of ATP (energy source of cell) and accelerate tissue repair. LASER therapy can also reduce inflammation and swelling by regulating the lymphatic flow and the concentration of pro-inflammatory mediators.

High power LASER is a fast and effective treatment with no side effects in a wide range of clinical conditions. It is particularly promising for overuse injuries and is valuable for treating slow healing tissues, which are often deprived of sufficient blood supply, e.g. tendinopathy

Schroth Method

Breathing, De-rotation, Elongation, Stabilization

This is achieved through physical therapy that focuses on:

  • Restoring muscular symmetry and spinal alignment

  • Breathing into the concave side of the body

  • Arousing the posture awareness in daily activities

Schroth method was developed by Katharina Schroth and was further popularized by her daughter Christa. Born in Germany in late 1800s, Katharina Schroth had scoliosis that was unsuccessfully treated with bracing. She developed her own breathing technique and exercises to manage her scoliosis. She and her daughter opened a clinic, where they treated more than 150 patients at a time.

What is Scoliosis?

Scoliosis is characterized by side-bended and rotated spine and is usually diagnosed in the adolescent. The spine looks like C or S shape while looking from the back and there is asymmetry of ribcage while bending forward.  Some adults develop degenerative scoliosis due to injury, overuse and poor posture.

Features of scoliosis

  • Uneven shoulders

  • More prominent over one side of ribcage

  • Uneven pelvis

  • One side of the rib cage jutting forward

  • A prominence on one side of the back when bending forward

The Schroth Method is a non-surgical option for scoliosis treatment regardless of the patient’s age and severity of the scoliosis. It consists of manual therapy and exercise therapy. It is customized for every single patient according to their unique scoliosis spine curvature. The important feature of the Schroth exercises is to de-rotate, elongate and stabilize the spine in a three-dimensional plane. It does not only help patients to regain a more symmetrical spine and alignment, but also improves core activation in daily activities and sports.
